Public Access for the Disabled
|
For any disabled individual, it can be very difficult to be able to get around if there are no ways that you are able to already set up for you. This is for obvious reasons such as wheelchairs being unable to roll put stairs, they are unable to go into bleachers and they are unable to go to other places without the appropriate access. While for some people this may be something that they do not think about but for people who have disabilities it is something that is needed for them to be able to live a normal life. What Buildings Need These AccommodationsAll public buildings and business buildings have to have these accommodations. This is not reinforced as strictly for buildings that were built and not worked on since before 1993 approximately. Even with those buildings there is still a great deal of them that should have this type of access. This means that the only buildings that do not need to have this access are non-public or business oriented buildings. This means that homes are not forced to have this type of access. However, it is a good idea to have this access if you have a family member who needs to use a wheel chair. This is because of the accidents that can happen if a family member is trying to get around in a wheel chair and does not have this type of set up or because it can feel as though a person is not welcome if there are issues when they try to get around the house. There are even come houses where you have to step up to get to the front door which a disabled person would be unable to do meaning that it would be possible that they would not even be able to enter the home. What Do These Accommodations IncludeIf the accommodations are in a public area then you need to have table access, public restrooms that they are able to enter and use, ramp for them to be able to get around or elevators and more. These are all the types of things that someone with a wheel chair might be in need of, if they will not need more that you may not be able to provide. If the area that a person is working on is not public they do not have to have this type of accessibility. If they are working on it because they are soon going to need this type of accessibility or currently do then they will more then likely be in need of a ramp, need to have the restroom be a size where the wheelchair will be able to fit, will need handles attached to key areas so that the person will be able to use the restroom or get into the bathtub and more depending on the level of need of the individual who is disabled. |
