My baby was born severely mentally disabled and I am going to have to either quit my job to care for her or hire full time care in order to provide her with what she needs. We are not going to be able to afford to cope with all this, in either situation. Is there any kind of baby disability we can get from social security to help us care for the baby?

There is no such thing as baby disability specifically, although a child who is disabled can qualify for social security income. Minors under the age of 18 years of age do not qualify for social security disability benefits; they can qualify for supplemental security income, however, if the family’s income level is below a certain amount. These benefits can continue until a child is 18 and if a child is receiving them, he is also automatically eligible for Medicaid to cover his medical bills. The income requirements vary depending on where you live and the size of your family. You should contact an experienced disability attorney who can help you determine whether you qualify for benefits in your area and what those benefits are.
