Question:

I have a very small business with maybe about 10-15 customers a day. The building location is small as well. Am I required by law to provide a place of accommodation for the disabled?

Answer: (1)

Yes. According to the ADA, individuals with disabilities are not to be denied equal enjoyment of goods and services provided by businesses. Public or private, the business must provide access of the service or good that is being provided to disabled. If a disabled person was not able to enter your business, they can legally contact the Human Rights Commission and file a complaint.

It would be recommended to provide a wheelchair ramp and other accommodations for the disabled customers whom you may at some point encounter. Contact a Disability or Employment Attorney in your state to find out laws and regulations that are applicable for places of accommodations.
