My sister is disabled and has two kids She can’t really take care of them very well and she also can’t work so they don’t have any money. I am wondering if the kids can qualify for some type of parenting disability on account of the fact that their mother is disabled?

Children may be able to qualify for supplemental security income (SSI) if they have a disabled parent, depending on the income level of the family. If your sister is classified as disabled as defined by the Social Security Administration’s list of impairments or qualifications for serious illness, then the children may each be able to collect SSI benefits. You or your sister should speak with social security or with an experienced disability attorney who can help you determine whether the children are entitled to these benefits.
