What options are available for a veteran to get disability benefits?

Answers

A wide range of cash benefits, medical services, and other programs are available for disabled veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) operates the healthcare system that serves the needs of America's veterans. The VHA provides primary care, specialized care, and related medical and social support services.  Veterans Administration hospitals, the counseling system known as the Vets Centers, and certain providers of special healthcare services to veterans are all part of the VHA system.

The Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) administers all of the federal benefit programs available to veterans and their family members. These programs include disability compensation, disability pensions, vocational rehabilitation services, educational assistance, life insurance, home loans programs, and other special services for disabled veterans.

Unlike the Social Security Administration, which either declares someone disabled or not disabled, the VA system uses a disability rating structure in which degree of disability is determined using percentages. Individuals may be determined to be disabled anywhere from 10% to 100%.
