Question:

I have a military service related disability. What will it cost me for medical care provided by the VA?

Answer:

If you are a disabled veteran and you have a military service related disability, you are entitled  to free medical care from the Veterans Affairs. The free medical care also cover diseases obtained during active service. Take note that if the disability was not service related, the Veterans Affairs will provide medical assistance, as long as he will make a co-payment. However, this case is on a discretionary basis.

Veterans with military service related disability are also eligible for life insurance. The insurance coverage is up to $10,000 if the veteran is in good health (aside from the service related disability). The veteran must file within 2 years of notification of injury. Coverage for veterans with total disability is up to $20,000, and the first $10,000 is premium-free.

If the traumatic injury happened anytime between October 7, 2001 and December 1, 2005, the veteran is entitled to Traumatic Service Members Group Life Insurance, if he has Group Life Insurance.

In addition, the Veterans Affairs also provide Vocational Rehabilitation for disabled veterans. The Vocational Rehabilitation Program helps the disabled veteran attain skills to secure employment.
