How long do Child Disability payments go on for?
My son, who is disabled, was granted child disability payments from social security. He was given the benefits last year when he was six. I am wondering how long child disability payments are granted for. Can he keep collecting forever?

Your child is not technically collecting disability benefits through the social security system; disability benefits are available to those 18 years of age and over only. Your son is likely collecting SSI- or supplemental security payments- which he qualifies for because of his disability and family income. As long as his level of disability and/or physical impairment hasn’t changed and your family income hasn’t changed, he can continue collecting benefits until he turns 18 at which point he must apply for social security disability benefits as an adult (a different test is used at that point to determined his continued eligibility. If you have questions about your continued eligibility or your sons rights, you should contact an experienced disability rights attorney who can help.
