The qualifications for SSI are specific but are varied based on the conditions and reasons for the individual needing Social Security Insurance. Specifically, SSI is available to those who have a medical condition of some type, either mental or physically, that keeps them from working and therefore they are unable to earn a living. Individuals who have pain are not going to receive approval for the condition to receive benefits, as this is not enough information. Rather, the Social Security Administration requires medical proof and evidence of the medical condition as well as the severity of it. Defining the pain level is part of this process, though. The qualifications for SSI are based on the individual's ability to perform any type of work.
