Pervasive Developmental Disorder

Those who have pervasive developmental disorder or PDD have a condition characterized by delays in the development of social and communication skills and function. There are several types of conditions that fall into this specific category of disorders include those who have PDD NOS, or pervasive development disorder not otherwise specified, autism, Asperger syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder or Rett syndrome. Those who have any of these pervasive developmental disorders may qualify for Social Security disability benefits because the conditions may be severe enough to limit the individual's ability to work or maintain gainful employment. There are various levels of severity evident and only those with a limiting condition will qualify for disability benefits.
