Disability Insurance Benefits

Social Security Disability insurance benefits are some of the best known benefits in the United States. Those who qualify receive a monthly check, Medicare, which is a type of health insurance, and a Vocational Rehabilitation program if you have the type of disability that could benefit from such a program. In order to receive the disability insurance benefits offered by Social Security, you must have worked long enough to have paid the proper amount of Social Security taxes, and have a disability that keeps you from being gainfully employed. Social Security taxes are counted in "quarters" and you have to have a specific number of them in order to qualify for SSDI. There is another type of Social Security Disability insurance that is known as Supplemental Security Income. These benefits are eligible to people who have not worked long enough to pay the proper amount of Social Security taxes. Mostly those disabled people who are blind or aged, and who do not have very much income receive SSI benefits.
