Disability

Social Security Disability is a Federal program that was created to help those who have disabilities and are unable to remain gainfully employed. There are two main programs, known as Social Security Disability Insurance, also known as SSDI, or Supplemental Security Income, also known as SSI. Social Security Disability Insurance will pay monthly benefits to those who worked and paid enough Social Security taxes to qualify. Some members of the disabled individual's family may also receive benefits. Supplemental Security Income is based on financial need, and gives disabled individuals monthly benefits. Those who apply for either program will need to supply Social Security disability workers with medical and other types of information. This is necessary for the workers to make a decision about your benefits claim. If a person's disability application has been denied, it is possible to appeal that decision. The disability determination process can be started by filing a claim by mail, by phone, via the Internet, or in person.
